Over the past 15 years I have seen many anti-PAP websites come and go; among those I have some contact with
sintercom.org now newsintercom.org - the original site owner decided to withdraw when the site was asked to register as a political site, and some new operators took over; it went through several phases and currently still goes along quietly
singapore-window.org - operated by a singaporean living in australia; still on-going but quiet
sfdonline.org - operated by a singaporean living in england, it has been inactive since 2003
singabloodypore.rsfblog.org - operated by an englishman who lived in singapore some years ago; very quiet
onlinecitizen.com.sg - quite active and now reasonably sober; only one that had to register as a political site requiring it to observe certain rules
yawningbread.org - operated by a gay activist though only occasionally discusses gay issues; a rare analytical gem among all the sites (but occasionally emotional - was very angry at vivian balakrishnan for trying to use gay activism against SDP candidate Dr Vincent Wijeysingha )
but Temasek Review must be a unique case; started in 2009 by a group of overseas residents but initially funded by a Dr Ong living in Singapore, it took off like a rocket - its formula somehow resonated with the mood of the country at the time, and quickly overtook all the other sites in readership. Though it attracted the attention of the regulatory authorities, it was neither restricted in its activities nor asked to register as a political site. However, Temasek Inc objected to its use of "Temasek Review" because that was used for a few years as the name of the company's in house magazine. Fearful of legal action to force it to hand over the site name, the group sold the website name to an investor in China in 2010, presumably with the condition that the group could continue to use the site for its web publication effort. However, in early 2011 it declared that the site will close in July, probably because the new owner demanded payment beyond its income for continued use of the site name from July 2011 onward. The group appears to have already struggling to maintain payment on renting the servers to host its content; in fact during the 2011 election campaign the site was down most of the time, either because of server inability to cope with the traffic, or because of maintenance closedown to migrate to a larger server.
